When I first started writing about CBD oils, the choice was so limited as there were hardly any brands around. Today, it’s a different story.
There are more products to choose from, the quality has improved and rather than the previous one size fits all approach, you can now select oils with tailored blends to help manage specific conditions such as muscle pain, anxiety or a general lack of energy and focus.
There are lots of fantastic brands out there – some are so-so, while others provoke an ‘ooh, this is nice’ so we thought we would share the 5 CBD oils that we’re loving right now. The list is by no means extensive but you could do worse than add these oils to your shopping list!
The London Botanists
A deliberately small collection enables The London Botanists to focus on crafting CBD products using minimal, pure ingredients from organic, sustainable sources.
The full-spectrum oils range in strength from 5-25% and are either THC-free or contain the legal standard of less than 0.2%.
This is the brand that I bought my first ever CBD oil from at their store in Camden which has sadly been a casualty of the pandemic but you can still buy the oil from their online shop.
The broad-spectrum CBD oils from LDN CBD come in strengths of 5% up to 30% and they’re formulated to reduce the THC amounts to undetectable amounts.
As the CBD is contained within a coconut carrier oil (MCT) it has an earthy, almost aromatic taste and the added benefit of MCT oil is that it’s absorbed more quickly than other fats and easily converted into energy.
LDN CBD is registered with the Vegan Society so as you’d expect, amongst other things, their oils are Gluten, solvent, pesticide and GMO-free. Sustainability and reducing their impact on the environment are taken very seriously and influence everything from the CBD bottles to the inks they use on their packaging.
Whilst we wouldn’t normally include a link to a brand’s quality page theirs is very impressive so we thought we’d share – they even have their own waste removal company.
Green Stem CBD
The multi-award-winning Green Stem CBD Oil stands out in more ways than one. From the eye-catching vintage-inspired apothecary packaging to the yummy flavours.
Made using hemp grown in Colorado, a state that’s renowned for its clean soil, sunshine and pure mountain-filtered water, the end result is a product that’s rich in CBD, vitamins, terpenes and other beneficial phytocannabinoids.
The Green Stem lab technicians formulate the CBD at their UK base where they add the flavours the brand is fast becoming known for.
The CBD oil range comes in 5 flavours and they really are some of the best, most natural tasting flavoured oils we’ve tasted so if you’re not too keen on CBD in hemp or MCT oil, then pop one of these in your basket.
- Sicilian Lemon
- Seville Orange
- Wild Strawberry
- Black Cherry
This multi-award winning CBD oil is from Hemptouch, a wellness brand from Slovenia where this is a long tradition of cultivating hemp.
Their CBD oils, sprays and masks are fantastic and are designed to be used in tandem with their hemp products which are also very good.
If you want to start small with CBD oil, they are one of the few brands that offer oil with a low 150mg of CBD, all the way up to 3000mg per bottle.
Hemptouch CBD oils are all broad-spectrum and made using the supercritical CO2 extraction method which means that maximum strength CBD can be extracted at low temperatures without the use of solvents or alcohol.
They also sell CBD sprays which come in variants of 300mg or 600mg and are categorised so that you can choose the one that fits in with what you’re looking to achieve:
- Peace & Harmony
- Focus & Inspire
- Good Night
Hemptouch is a sustainable brand so their CBD oils are all organic, vegan certified, non-GMO and free from pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, chemical fertilisers and parabens. It’s also one of the few Kosher CBD oils you can buy.
Hempen Co-operative CBD Oil
Hempen is a long-standing not-for-profit co-operative and the UK’s leading certified organic hemp farm.
In fact, they used to produce their own from seed to bottle CBD oil until in an unfathomable move, the Government revoked their licence and ordered the destruction of their crop
Luckily for us, this devastating turn of events didn’t put them out of business and they’re still the UK’s leading certified organic hemp farm. Whilst they may no longer produce the hemp required for producing CBD, their oils do come blended with organic hemp seed oil grown on their farm.
All Hempen’s products are 100% organic and vegan, certified by the Soil Association and they come in strengths from 250mg through to 2000mg. An added eco touch is the availability of metal capped oils to reduce the use of plastic droppers.
